What Will My Child Achieve?
These workshops are for children aged between 4 to 10 year olds, and who are not currently in an educational setting. Siblings under the age of 4 are able to attend for free.
During the workshop, your child will learn about modern and contemporary artists in the creative world, taking inspiration from what they do and using it to inspire in their own creative outcome.
As well as learning of some artists, the children will be able to explore different materials and techniques. At least one outcome will be created during each session which your child will be able to take away with them.
What Will My Child Do?
The booking you make will consist of a term, experimenting with different media and techniques to create an outcome (some weeks may differ slightly due to change in weather, equipment/material availability).
Whilst children are arriving, there will be some large sheets of paper set up for the children to work collaboratively by responding to shapes or visual prompts that I have drawn - this activity is to promote imagination and to familiarise themselves with those around them. About 15 minutes into the session the children will move onto the main activity at tables that are set up for them to use, this part of the session will be guided.
During the above there will be a table set up with some basic drawing materials on it for those children who need some time away from the main table or would like to work on something independently. There is absolutely no pressure for children to sit at the main table for the whole session. For venues with outdoor space, we will spend the last 15 minutes playing games before the session finishes.

All materials, equipment and aprons will be provided by Colourful Horizons. I also include tea, coffee and biscuits (the biscuits at my venue in Plympton has been a huge hit with the children!) in venues with facilities to do so.
I would advise that your child wears old clothes to the session so not to spoil your favourites by accident, as some sessions may involve wet materials. Although I do my best to limit mess, I can’t promise that you’ll be mess free by the end of the session as you'll be enjoying yourself too much to notice the odd splodge!
